Urban Geomorphology

The processes which shape the Earth’s surface don’t just occur in wilderness locations, they are also reshaping the urban environment. We are leading the development of this new area in natural sciences.

Research areas

Above are some of the research areas in urban geomorphology. We are keen to collaborate and explore ideas with anthropologists, archaeologists, engineers, architects, geologists and anyone with an interest in the urban fabric and what it means to our lives.

Our latest project is looking at urban art (e.g. graffiti writing, street art) in Birmingham. Looking at where it is done and how the physical spaces of derelict buildings and spaces affect the art, as well as what the art has done to shape how people think about an area. Find out more here!
